An Unusual Sight

This morning while driving to work I was stopped at a light at an intersection.

A tin can was rolling perfectly across the intersection, seemingly of its own accord, as though it were a miniature vehicle.

For a scant second I wondered how long it would go on, how long it would roll.

My question was answered immediately when a car (I didn’t pay attention to what kind as I was focused on the can) came roaring by and struck and flattened the can.  It stopped.  it was, for all practical purposes, dead.

I wondered if that’s what we are, rolling along, perhaps aimlessly or maybe with a path or destination.  To what degree are we subject to the same random flattening by the madness of impersonal mechanization?

Oh, what a loaded question in such a small post!
